Familiar Occurrence of Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis in two Siblings Born Singly

Abstract

|
The precise etiology of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis(HPS) is unknown and it is still uncertain whether this is an acquired or a congenital lesion. A genetic predisposition may play a role in some cases but there were no convincing data to
suggest
that
genetics of familiar tendencies are overriding etiological factors.
We report HPS occurred in first and second children in two famalies, both brothers in one family and brother and sister in another family respectively. We believe, this may be the first report of HPS occurring in siblings in Korean literature.
